Advanced High-Performance Computing Infrastructure Research Division (Date Laboratory), D3 Center, Osaka University
The Advanced High-Performance Computing Infrastructure Research Division (Date Laboratory) is established in the D3 Center, Osaka University (reorganized from Cybermedia Center in October 2024). Our research division continues the mission of the Applied Information Systems Research Division (Shimojo Laboratory: 2000–2022).
Our research division leverages the expertise of the D3 Center in building and operating supercomputing systems, large-scale visualization systems, and data infrastructures. Our research and development focus on next-generation supercomputing systems, advanced high-performance computing infrastructures, and their applications. In addition, we educate the next generation of leaders and pioneers in this field as a cooperative laboratory, “Advanced High-Performance Computing Infrastructure Systems Laboratory,” in the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology and the Faculty of Engineering.

Mission
The D3 Center at Osaka University (reorganized from the Cybermedia Center in October 2024) is a national joint-use facility with missions to develop, provide, and research advanced computing infrastructure, deliver education utilizing such computing infrastructure, and facilitate the electronic management and dissemination of intellectual resources. To achieve these objectives, the center provides advanced and large-scale computing systems to researchers at Osaka University and research institutions across Japan. The main missions of our research division include ensuring the stable operation and provision of supercomputing systems and performing research and development to advance the computing and data infrastructures centered on supercomputing systems.
The D3 Center serves as one of the institutions constituting the Innovative High Performance Computing Infrastructure (HPCI) and the Joint Usage/Research Center for Interdisciplinary Large-scale Information Infrastructures (JHPCN). Our mission also includes promoting and supporting joint research and facilitating the effective use of D3 Center’s supercomputing systems based on these programs.
Additionally, as a member of the mdx initiative, D3 Center co-operates the Cloud Platform for Supporting Data Science and Cross-Disciplinary Research Collaborations.
