Internship @ Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Today, I’m starting my internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US. It was always my desire to do an internship overseas during my Ph.D. program and I’m so excited to be given this amazing opportunity.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest national laboratory sponsored by the Department of Energy and has a long history of over 75 years. ORNL is widely recognized as a prestigious lab in various fields of science including high-performance computing, neutron science, life science and material science. As of July 2018, ORNL owns the world’s fastest supercomputer, Summit, which has a performance of 122.3 PFLOPS.

At ORNL, I will be working with the Scientific Data Group of the Computer Science and Mathematics Division. More specifically, my mission is to research and develop a new engine for Adaptive Input/Output System (ADIOS), an I/O abstraction library for high-performance computing applications that the Scientific Data Group has been developing.

I’m thrilled to work on a new project in a completely new environment; it’s also my first time to live overseas alone. I will make the most of this great opportunity!
